"Creating medical items using sustainable materials."
In the medical field, many devices are made from metals and synthetic materials for their durability and cost-effectiveness. However, we aim to create sustainable wheelchairs using natural materials that are kinder to the environment. Our wooden wheelchair features a frame made entirely of wood, which can challenge structural integrity. To address this, we use structural wood in the form of planes, allowing the components to be disassembled and transported flat for greater accessibility. We aim to show that sustainable medical devices can be made from natural materials, offering functionality and an appealing tactile experience.
Working with wood allows us to create unique designs that not only look inviting but also feel wonderful to touch. We understand that when it comes to assistive products like wheelchairs, it’s all too easy to focus purely on functionality and safety. However, we know that the user experience is just as important. That's why we decided to rethink the traditional wheelchair frame design and draw inspiration from the familiar warmth and comfort of furniture, aiming to create a product that truly resonates with users on a personal level.
